China became the largest importer of passenger cars to Russia in 2022

In 2022, China imported 40% more passenger cars to Russia than a year earlier. The number of imported cars amounted to 117,000. The Federal Customs Service (FTS) told RIA Novosti that China has become Russia’s leading importer in this sector.
The import of trucks from China to Russia in 2022 amounted to almost 31 thousand units. In a year the indicator has grown four times in comparison with the previous one. In addition, China imported 2,000 buses and minibuses to Russia last year (an increase of 68%). Also, 3,000 units of special-purpose vehicles (for example, emergency and fire trucks, truck cranes, concrete mixer trucks, etc.) were imported to Russia – three times more than a year earlier. The number of Chinese tractors imported into the Russian Federation has not changed and amounted to 89 thousand units.
According to Avtostat, sales of new passenger cars in Russia fell by 59% last year compared to the previous year. The figure amounted to 626.3 thousand pieces. Most often, Russians bought domestic brands, the Korean auto industry is in the second place (19.5% of sales), and the Chinese one (19.2%) is in the third place. European brands accounted for 8.5% of the Russian market.
According to the China Customs Administration, the total volume of trade between Russia and China rose by 29.3% in 2022, to a record $190.271 billion.
