CHI funds in new regions will act as insurance companies

The Federal Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund (FOMS) has submitted documents to the Donetsk, Luhansk People’s Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions for the formation of territorial funds and the CHI system. The units will themselves perform the functions of insurance companies and issue policies to citizens.
Territorial funds will pay for medical care, control its quality and protect the rights of patients. Residents of new regions will be able to receive medical care in all regions of the Russian Federation, including high-tech in federal clinics, the MHIF said TASS.
In December, MHIF chairman Ilya Balanin and interim heads of new regions signed cooperation agreements. This document provided for the creation of territorial funds and the issuance of compulsory medical insurance policies for residents.
The DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions became part of the Russian Federation at the end of September during the military operation in Ukraine, which has been carried out since February 24 by order of President Vladimir Putin.
