Chewing gum has risen the most in Russian stores in a year

Chewing gum has risen in price the most over the past year in Russian stores, reports RBC with reference to Rosstat data. In March, the average retail price of a pack of chewing gum was 39 rubles. A year ago, it cost 32 rubles, an increase of 22.3%. The price peak was reached in February 2023 – 39.39 rubles.

According to RBC, the growth rate of chewing gum over the past year has become a record for the entire previous decade. In past years, chewing gum also became more expensive, but the annual price increase was 1-3 rubles. The exception was 2018, when prices fell slightly.

In July, the American Mars, the largest player in the Russian chewing gum market, faced with difficulties in supplying this product under the Orbit brand. The reason could be that the rubber base for chewing gum made of synthetic polymers fell under EU sanctions. Mars planned to reduce the Orbit range before the end of the year. Euromonitor International estimated the size of the Russian chewing gum market in 2021 at about 26 thousand tons, and the turnover – up to 50 billion rubles.
