“Cheburashka” bypassed “Avatar” and became the highest grossing film in the history of Russian distribution

The Russian family film “Cheburashka” directed by Dmitry Dyachenko became the highest-grossing film in the Russian box office, collecting 3,528,556,464 rubles. This is evidenced by the data of the Unified Federal Automated Information System of Information on Film Screenings in Cinema Halls (UAIS). The box office of the previous record holder – the first part of “Avatar” by James Cameron – amounted to 3,516,796,661 rubles.
The Cheburashka rental started on January 1, 2023. For 10 days, the box office of the film at the box office reached more than 3.1 billion rubles. The last record among Russian cinema belonged to Klim Shipenko’s “Kholop” – its total box office totaled 3,082,031,790 rubles.
Dmitry Dyachenko, who became the director of Cheburashka, also directed The Last Hero and What Men Talk About. The main roles in Cheburashka were played by Sergey Garmash, Olga Kuzmina, Fedor Dobronravov, Sergey Lavygin, Polina Maksimova.
