The Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia at a meeting on December 16 decided to leave the key rate at 7.5% per annum. As noted in press release regulator, current price growth rates are moderate, and consumer demand is subdued. Inflationary expectations of households and businesses have not changed significantly, while proinflationary risks have grown and prevail over disinflationary ones.
On the eve of the meeting, many experts agreed that the Central Bank will take a wait-and-see attitude. As analysts of the MMI Telegram channel noted, the Central Bank will start raising the rate only at the moment when the increase in inflationary pressure becomes more obvious. This may happen in February or later.
