Central Bank: a quarter of Russian households have debts

In 2022, 23.1% of Russian families had debts, according to the calculations of the Central Bank (.pdf). The median amount of debt was 140 thousand rubles, that is, about 50% of households have debt above this indicator.
The largest proportion of indebted households (10.5%) have consumer credit debt. The median amount of debt is 100 thousand rubles, but it is much higher for mortgages – 973.9 thousand rubles. 5.3% have this type of debt.
About 4% of families have car loan debts with a median amount of debt of 227.6 thousand rubles. 6.4% have credit card debts (with a median of 30 thousand rubles), 0.6% have microloans (median – 25 thousand rubles). 4.6% of families were borrowed from private individuals (9 thousand rubles).
65.1% of families have financial assets. Their median amount is 15.7 thousand rubles. The majority of Russians (64.5%) keep funds in bank accounts (with a median of 15,000 rubles). 1.6% of families invest in stocks and bonds (with a median of 26.5 thousand rubles). Only 0.3% of families (82.5 thousand rubles) have shares in mutual funds, 0.4% of respondents (17.5 thousand rubles) have shares in cryptocurrency.
The Bank of Russia conducted a study from April to August 2022 in 38 localities. It was attended by about 6 thousand households, or 12 thousand people. From May to June 2022, 70% of responses were received.
