Car sales in the EU grow for the ninth month in a row – Kommersant

Today the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) reportedAccording to the results of April, sales of new passenger cars in the EU increased by 17.2% compared to April last year and amounted to 803.2 thousand units. The largest growth in car sales in April was shown in Croatia (+44%), Belgium (+40%) and the Netherlands (+35.2%). Of the largest economies in Europe, high growth was recorded in Italy (+29.2%) and France (+21.9%).
Sales of electric vehicles grew the most in April in the EU – by 51.9%, to 94,561 units. Thus, the share of electric vehicles in the EU has already reached 11.8%, 3% more than a year earlier. In total, since the beginning of the year, 415.6 thousand electric vehicles have been sold in the EU, which is 45.1% more than in the first four months of 2022. Significant growth was also shown by sales of cars with a gasoline engine – by 17.3%, up to 306.6 thousand units, the share of 38.2%. Sales of diesel vehicles practically did not grow in April (+0.3%), their share in the EU decreased by 2.5% compared to last year, to 14.7%.
Among automakers, the largest increase in sales in April in the EU was shown by the American Tesla – by 788.9%, to 10,685 units. Of the larger companies, the leaders were the German Volkswagen Group (+31.2%, 220.5 thousand units) and the French Renault Group (+41.1%, 91.4 thousand units). The most significant decline in sales was recorded by Japanese Mitsubishi (-47.9%, 2.9 thousand) and Honda (-63.9%, 1.5 thousand).
