The 76th Cannes Film Festival has kicked off in France and will run until May 27. The opening ceremony is broadcast on the official site festival. There will be no films from Russia in the competition program this year. It is expected that the festival will be visited by 35 thousand people.
This year, for the first time, a woman, the former head of WarnerMedia in France and Germany, Iris Knobloch, will take the presidency of the Cannes Film Festival. The chairman of the jury of the main competition is the Swedish film director Ruben Östlund.
The first film shown within the framework of the festival will be Jeanne Dubarry by the French director Mayvenn Le Besco. There are 21 films in the main competition, including Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, Jessica Hausner’s Club Zero, and Wim Wenders’ Beautiful Days.
Martin Scorsese’s “The Killers of the Flower Moon”, James Mangold’s “Indiana Jones and the Clock of Destiny” and Pedro Almodovar’s “Strange Way of Life” will be screened out of competition. As part of the Un Certain Regard program, a film by the Mongolian director Zolyargal Purevdash “If I could only fall asleep” will be shown.
