Business asks the Ministry of Industry and Trade to extend parallel imports for 2023

The Association of Internet Trade Companies is preparing a letter to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a proposal to extend the validity of parallel imports for 2023. He said this in an interview “Izvestia” Association President Artem Sokolov.

“It is enough to look at any website of an online store or online platform to make sure: parallel import works, it is important and necessary. Thanks to him, the assortment of goods has been preserved and expanded. Consumers can get virtually any product, despite the sanctions,” Mr. Sokolov said. According to him, if this mechanism is not extended, the consumer will receive counterfeit products instead of original products, and at a high price.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade told Izvestia that the association’s proposal would be considered after receiving the letter. The extension of parallel imports is also supported by the Association of Retailers. Igor Karavaev, chairman of the association’s presidium, told the newspaper about this.

In March, the government legalized parallel imports, which allow the import of products from companies that have left Russia without the permission of the copyright holder. Some retailers and marketplaces have already started selling electronics in Russia through parallel imports.
