Bulgaria withdrew from sanctions the suppliers of automotive fuel from the Russian Federation until the end of 2024

Due to the difficult situation with fuel in the country, the technical government of Bulgaria removed Russian fuel supply companies from restrictions until December 31, 2024. Sofia allowed Bulgarian firms to enter into new government contracts and framework agreements.
“It is allowed to conclude new state contracts and framework agreements with automotive fuel suppliers from the Russian Federation after October 10, 2022… An exception is introduced due to the need to provide automotive fuel for the normal operation of state bodies and other structures in order to protect public order, life and health citizens of Bulgaria and national security. It is valid until December 31, 2024,” the press service of the Bulgarian Cabinet of Ministers reported (TASS quote).
The main Russian motor fuel operator in Bulgaria is LUKOIL Bulgaria. The company owns the oil refinery “LUKOIL Neftohm Burgas” and a network of filling stations. The Bulgarian Ministry of Finance said earlier that it intends to obtain from the European Union a delay in the ban on the purchase of fuel until at least the end of 2024. In early September, LUKOIL representatives met in Sofia with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev. Mr. Radev said that LUKOIL is the most important component of the Bulgarian economy.
