Bulgaria sent a request to Gazprom to resume gas negotiations

Energy Minister of Bulgaria Rosen Hristov said that the country’s government sent a request to Gazprom with a proposal to resume negotiations on gas supplies from Russia and now expects a response from the company in the coming days, informed TV channel Nova.
“We told them that we are ready to resume negotiations on the contract and that we have proposals for a number of amendments that would allow it to be streamlined,” Rosen said. He noted that the resumption of negotiations is “practically inevitable”, since the price of alternative gas supplies is much higher than Gazprom’s offer. Among the proposals of the government is the extension of the contract until the summer of next year, while we are not talking about the conclusion of new contracts.
At the same time, he said that even under the conditions of anti-Russian sanctions, Bulgaria continues to buy Russian gas – “only through intermediaries and we pay 30% on top.” Hristov stressed that he does not consider the purchase of Russian gas to be financing a special military operation in Ukraine. “If we are talking about financing, first of all, Germany should stop buying Russian gas. Leading European countries buy the same gas according to these rules,” he added.
“Gazprom» On April 27, he completely suspended gas supplies to the Bulgarian company Bulgargaz due to the refusal to pay in rubles. In the summer, gas prices began to rise sharply. Now Bulgaria uses, among other things, liquefied gas from the USA and Azerbaijan.
On August 22, Hristov first announced the need for negotiations with a Russian energy company. Then he also noted that it is planned to hold talks on additional gas supplies from Azerbaijan. First of all, Bulgaria is interested in the cost of supplies. “At the moment, we are not so worried about volumes, we have proposals for gas supplies. What worries us the most is the price and the tendency of the market to systematically increase prices,” Hristov said.
