Broadcom will sell a division of KKR for $3.8 billion – Kommersant

One of the largest semiconductor manufacturers in the United States, Broadcom, is close to selling its custom development division to investment firm KKR. According to Reuters, KKR won the auction announced by Broadcom to buy the unit, beating out other bidders. Under the terms of the deal, KKR will pay $3.8 billion for the Broadcom division. The deal could be officially announced as early as Monday, February 26.
The sale of the division is intended to simplify and facilitate Broadcom’s asset portfolio after the American company carried out a large-scale merger with software developer for cloud and virtual services VMware for $69 billion. This merger became the largest deal in the history of the technology sector. After selling its custom development division, Broadcom intends to also sell VMware’s Carbon Black security software division. Investment company KKR regularly makes such acquisitions. So, in 2021, it bought information services technology provider Ensono for $1.7 billion, and in 2018 it paid $8.5 billion for business software developer BMC.
