UK government statedthat it intends to continue actively issuing licenses for oil and gas production in the North Sea in order to ensure the energy independence of the kingdom.
In particular, the authorities have confirmed several more rounds of licenses for oil companies to operate in the North Sea, during which “hundreds of new licenses” will be distributed. Now the authorities are holding the 33rd such round. The next one should take place in the fall, when companies will receive more than 100 licenses.
The UK government has stepped up the issuance of licenses for oil and gas production in the North Sea in the fall of 2022. Currently, the North Sea produces a volume of gas that provides about 40% of the UK’s needs. According to the estimates of the British regulator North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA), this share will be reduced to 30% by 2030.
