Director Vince Gilligan and his co-showrunner Peter Gould have announced that Better Call Saul will be the last show in the Breaking Bad universe. They have no more plans to continue the series, although they clarified that “never say never.”
Gilligan noted that he was very pleased with the material already created and felt that it was time to stop exploiting this universe. Better Call Saul will end on August 15 after six seasons and 63 episodes, in addition to Breaking Bad’s 62 episodes.
Gilligan intends to focus on a new project, in the spirit of The X-Files or The Twilight Zone.
Peter Gould added that 127 hours is “a lot of time and a big investment.” He emphasized that he was proud of the series that had been released, but wanted to try something new. Gould also said that he loves everyone who worked on this universe very much, and most of the film crew will remain.
