BP suspends oil tanker deliveries through the Red Sea due to increased Houthi attacks, reports Bloomberg.

“In light of the deteriorating safety situation for shipping in the Red Sea, BP has decided to temporarily suspend all transit traffic through the Red Sea,” the British company said in a statement.

Earlier, other major carriers, including the world leader in container shipping, announced the cessation of deliveries through the Red Sea. Maersk. The company made this decision after last week a missile was fired at one of the container ships, the Maersk Gibraltar, en route from the Omani port of Salalah to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) and passing off the coast of Yemen.

In recent weeks have become more frequent attacks on ships sailing in international waters in the Red Sea amid the outbreak of war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement. Strikes with missiles or drones apply Yemen’s Houthis, who support Hamas and have promised to carry out operations against ships they believe are associated with Israel.
