British oil and gas company BP announced on the appointment of Murray Auchincloss, who has been acting CEO since September last year, as the new CEO of the company. Mr Auchincloss took over as BP’s chief executive after Bernard Looney, who had led the oil and gas company since 2020, was forced to to retire.

In 2022, a review was initiated against Mr. Looney regarding his relationships with colleagues. No violations of the company code were detected at that time. However, it later turned out that Mr. Looney hid some details of past relationships with employees. It was not specified what violations were discussed. In December, the board of directors decided to deprive the now former CEO payments at £32.4 million.

BP’s board spent four months searching for a suitable candidate to become the company’s new chief executive, but ultimately found no one better than Murray Auchincloss, said chairman Helge Lund: “The board fully agrees that Murray is an excellent candidate and the right leader for BP.” . Before becoming interim chief executive, Mr Auchincloss was BP’s chief financial officer for more than three years. In total, Murray Auchincloss has been working for the British company for 25 years.
