Bernard Looney, who led the oil and gas company BP since 2020, has resigned. As the agency reported Bloomberg citing a company statement, the reason for leaving was that he did not disclose details of his past personal relationships with colleagues. Chief Financial Officer Murray Ashinkloss has been appointed interim CEO.
In 2022, a review was initiated against Bernard Looney in connection with his contacts with colleagues. No violations of the code were found. As Bloomberg notes, it later turned out that Mr. Looney hid some details of past relationships with employees. It is not specified what violations are being discussed.
Bernard Looney, 53, has worked for BP since 1991, starting as an engineer. Bloomberg notes that since he took over the company, BP’s shares have declined relative to its peers. This was also due to the energy crisis.
