Writer and playwright Boris Akunin (Grigory Chkhartishvili) said that the prosecutor’s office is forcing theaters to remove his name from the posters of performances. According to the writer, he was informed about this in one of the theaters, asking if he would agree to remove his name from the poster, or would he prefer to close the performance.
“Today they called from another theater where there is a performance based on my book. The prosecutor’s office strongly recommends that the name of the author be removed, otherwise there will be trouble. What to do, the poor theater asks me: remove the name or close the performance. Of course, shoot, I answer, ”Boris Akunin wrote in Telegram. The writer noted that he was not paid for performances based on his works.
In autumn, from the posters of the performances of the Russian Academic Youth Theater (RAMT), where four performances by Boris Akunin, gone writer’s name. According to Mr. Akunin, the artistic director of the theater called him and explained the situation as pressure from the authorities. In July, the Moscow bookstore “Young Guard” stripped off from the sale of the writer’s book.
Boris Akunin has been criticizing the actions of the Russian authorities since the mid-2000s. In February 2022, he condemned the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine.
