Over the past week, complaints have been made about the Bolshoi to the Investigative Committee, the prosecutor’s office, Rospotrebnadzor, the Ministry of Culture and even the presidential administration. All because of the organization of queues in front of the cash registers. Two girls were injured in the stampede. But the theater does not even have the legal rights to restore order on the street, said general director Vladimir Urin.
People go over their heads, and even before watching the ballet they receive indescribable emotions, says Muscovite Dmitry, who, after an unsuccessful attempt to buy tickets on the website, joined the live queue:
“We stood until the end. I didn’t pass, but my wife, who was next to me, was pushed forward by the crowd, and she received almost the last bracelet. This was done by some miracle, because next to my wife in the crowd there were people who had been taking places in line since 6 in the morning, and not everyone was able to get the coveted bracelet.
Since my wife was in front of the crowd, and she is a psychologist, she helped a girl who was having a panic attack. Some were practically carried. That is, physically, no one seemed to be hurt, but psychologically it was very scary. The men, of course, held on, but almost all the women came out in tears.”
Questions also arose regarding the number of performances. The theater said that it was impossible to increase them “due to the physical capabilities of the artists.” However, compared to the last two years, they plan to present one more production. Another complaint relates to the operation of the site. Three quarters of all tickets are sold online, which means the system works without failures, the Bolshoi said. And it’s hard to argue with this in theory, but in practice it’s not easier to purchase tickets on the website, says Moscow resident Irina:
“When there were the first days of sales, the site was either lying down, it was probably disabled. At first I couldn’t log into my personal account for a very long time. Like-minded people said that they had the same thing. Then, when you go to the page of the performance itself, you click on the “Buy a ticket” button, the site shows that tickets are available. And then a diagram of the hall opens, where there is not a single empty seat. And this was true not only for “The Nutcracker,” but also for all other performances. During the second wave of sales there really was a rush, and we also failed to buy anything.”
The price list for resellers in line has increased this year. As Kommersant FM found out, bracelets that guarantee a place in line at the cash register cost speculators 20 thousand rubles in the first week, and 40 thousand rubles in the second week. But after this, seats in the stalls are offered for 200 thousand rubles, and this is not the limit. But it is virtually impossible to punish speculators, says Galina Hamburg, head of the property and liability relations practice at Amulex.ru:
“Tickets can be sold exactly at the price indicated on the ticket by the organization itself or by authorized persons, that is, with whom this organization has an agreement. And administrative liability has been established for illegal resale by the very resellers we see every day. But the problem is that the Ministry of Culture can draw up protocols and hold people accountable. That is, a police officer who sees the illegal resale of tickets is not authorized to come up and do something with this comrade.”
Last weekend, a resident of Krasnoyarsk was the first to receive the coveted bracelet. She stood in line for 59 hours.
