Yesterday, February 29, the American aerospace corporation Boeing agreed with the US State Department to dismiss the case for violating export restrictions. The company will pay a fine of $51 million.
The point is that Boeing employees outside the United States gained access to technical documentation on the company’s defense programs, including the F-18, F-15 and F-22 fighter jets, the E-3 airborne early warning aircraft, the AH-64 Apache helicopter, etc. This violated the US Arms Export Control Act and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
What attracted particular attention from American authorities was that several Boeing employees in China received access to this data between 2013 and 2017. It is reported that Boeing employees from several other countries also received access to such documentation, including the UK, Italy, India, Russia, and Ukraine. Boeing has promised to improve controls over access to this type of information within the company.
