Bloomberg: The Netherlands and Japan may limit technology exports to China by the end of January

The Netherlands and Japan may introduce export controls against China by the end of January. Dutch and Japanese Prime Ministers Mark Rutte and Fumio Kishida discussed the issue with US President Joe Biden at the White House in early January. This was reported Bloomberg with reference to sources.

According to Bloomberg, the export restrictions of the Netherlands and Japan will not be as strict as those of the United States. The agency does not provide details of the planned restrictions.

ASML Holding NV is located in the Netherlands, which manufactures lithographic equipment for the microelectronics industry, and Japan is home to the electronics and semiconductor manufacturer Tokyo Electron Ltd. Without access to the goods of these companies, Chinese manufacturers will face difficulties in the production of electronics and microcircuits, Bloomberg notes.

In October 2022, the US listed 31 Chinese companies as “not credible in terms of supplying technology products.” China’s largest chipmaker, SMIC, also fell under the restrictions. In China, it was considered that the US export control violated the market terms of trade. December 13 China informedthat filed a lawsuit against the US in the WTO because of the restrictions.
