Russia and Iran have begun to create a new transcontinental trade route from Eastern Europe to the Indian Ocean with a length of 3,000 km. This is reported Bloomberg.
The aim of the project, the agency writes, was the desire of the two countries to speed up the delivery of goods via sea and rail networks in the Caspian Sea. Thus, Russia and Iran want to reduce the pressure exerted by Western sanctions on the economies and trade relations of the countries. According to Bloomberg, the northern point of the route is in the Sea of Azov.
Vessel tracking data compiled by Bloomberg suggests that dozens of Russian and Iranian vessels, including those subject to sanctions, are already plying the route.
According to Maria Shagina, an expert at the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies, Russia and Iran will invest up to $25 billion to create an internal trade corridor.
