One of the largest Western suppliers of Russian grain – Canadian Viterra intends to stop its export, writes Bloomberg. The company made a decision after behind another major player in the segment – the American Cargill.
According to Bloomberg anonymous interlocutors, Viterra intends to leave the Russian market and is about to announce this decision. Viterra and Cargill were among the six largest exporters of Russian wheat, the publication clarifies. Against this background, futures for wheat on the Chicago Stock Exchange rose by 3.5%.
The company was engaged in sales of Russian wheat, barley, corn, peas and sunflower oil. In 2022, the Russian subsidiary of Viterra, LLC Viterra Rus, increased its revenue to 80.7 billion rubles. from 69.9 billion a year earlier. Who will get the Russian assets of the company, Bloomberg is unknown.
In December, the Russian fertilizer supplier Uralchem notified Russian President Vladimir Putin of its readiness to buy out the assets of Cargill and Viterra and asked for the government commission’s consent to the deal. Vitrerra and Cargill said at the time that they did not intend to stop working in Russia.
