Bloomberg: Apple plans to produce iPhone 14 in India

Apple intends to start production of the iPhone 14 in India, informs Bloomberg, citing informed sources. It is specified that the company, together with suppliers, is working to expand production in India and reduce the production time for new iPhones from 9 to 6 months.
According to the agency, Apple, which has been working with Chinese manufacturers for a long time, is now forced to look for an alternative to this country due to the decline in China’s economic activity against the backdrop of aggravated relations between the US and Chinese governments after the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. Among the reasons why economic activity was disrupted is also the introduction of hard lockdowns that undermined production in China.
The new Apple model is expected to ship from both countries, said Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities Group. This will allow the company to diversify its supply chains and build up reserves.
China’s top iPhone maker, Foxconn, is now looking into the process of supplying components to a factory near Chennai in southern India and then assembling the devices. At the same time, Apple and Foxconn agreed that the release of a new model simultaneously in two markets this year will not work. As a result, immediately after the presentation in September, the new iPhone 14 will be produced only in China until October-November, when production starts in India, the sources said. Manufacturers want to try to be in time by October 24, when the main Indian and Hindu holiday Diwali will be held in India.
Earlier, the agency reported that the presentation of the iPhone 14 will take place on September 7th. Apple is planning to again hold the presentation in an online format, as it already did in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. According to the publication, the company may reschedule the presentation, although it usually always presents its new lines in the first half of September, new items should go on sale a week and a half after the presentation.
