Today at 14:30 local time, the ashes of the great director Rimas Tuminas were taken out of his Vilnius Maly Theater, where a farewell to him had been held since yesterday.

Everything was strict, majestic and beautiful. The procession with the ashes was met in the street by a huge crowd. Another farewell, but short-lived, took place near the National Theater, located not far from Maly. The bell rang and Khachaturian’s waltz from the play “Masquerade,” staged by Tuminas both in Lithuania and Moscow, sounded. After which everyone went by bus to the Antakalnis cemetery, where the ashes of the great director will rest on the Artists’ Hill among the hills and pine trees.

Let us remind you that Rimas Tuminas died on March 6 in Italy, in a clinic. He headed the Vakhtangov Theater for almost 15 years, and his performances based on Russian classics made this oldest Russian theater famous.
