Sunday, September 4, the historian and columnist was placed under judicial supervision. At the same time, the news channel quietly announced the withdrawal of its consultant “investigation time”.

Saturday September 3 at 10 p.m., François Durpaire was still on the BFMTV set to decipher the Artemis Mission. The next day, the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed his indictment for raping an ex-partner.

According to The Parisian the facts date back to 2011 in the historian’s apartment located in 11e district of Paris. For nearly nine years, until 2020, the case went unreported by both parties. François Durpaire and the young woman would have found a financial agreement up to 60,000 euros. This former companion, now thirty-nine years old, finally decided to file a complaint. The Paris prosecutor’s office opened an investigation and summoned the BFMTV consultant on August 30. After police custody, the indictment was formalized on Thursday, September 1.

Six months after the Jean-Jacques Bourdin affair

Speaker of the news channel since 2011, François Durpaire was removed from the antenna on Sunday, September 4. Without making a statement live, in a press release or on social networks, BFMTV has discreetly formalized the suspension of the historian. On several occasions, short messages are broadcast in the scrolling banners intended to summarize the news.

“François Durpaire, historian and consultant of BFMTV, was indicted for rape and placed under judicial supervision”, can we read in the first message located at the bottom of the screen before a second one succeeds it, “During the investigation, the management of BFMTV decided to suspend it from the antenna”.

This case is not unlike that of Jean Jacques Bourdin last season. Last January, the journalist was targeted by an investigation for sexual assault after the complaint of the former weather presenter of BFMTV Fanny Agostini. Quickly, an internal investigation was launched and the person concerned was withdrawn. At the end of June, Jean-Jacques Bourdin was finally fired by RMC and BFMTV.
