Bezos may sell The Washington Post to buy a football club

American billionaire and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos may sell his publication The Washington Post to acquire the Washington Commanders football club, which is part of the US National Football League (NFL). It is reported by The New York Post, citing sources.
At the same time, there have been no official reports that the newspaper has been put up for sale. As one of the sources of the publication, familiar with the situation on the market, explained, one investor is already applying for the purchase of WP. Another source who deals directly with buying and selling newspapers also heard that WP could be up for sale. A spokesman for Bezos said the newspaper is not yet for sale.
The NYP notes that talk of a possible sale of Bezos’s newspaper is indirectly confirmed by a December article by Axios, which said that American billionaire Michael Bloomberg is interested in acquiring Dow Jones, which owns the business publication The Wall Street Journal, or The Washington Post.
However, a deal to buy the football team for Bezos could be hampered by bad relations with its owner Dan Schneider. The latter was dissatisfied with a series of investigations published in The Washington Post, which spoke of the toxic leadership of the Washington Commanders, which allegedly approved of sexual harassment.
“Some even believe that Schneider suspects Bezos, who bought the Washington Post in 2013 for $250 million, of supporting critical publications in 2020 to force him to sell the team,” writes the NYP.
Schneider has already hired Bank of America to hold an auction to sell the club. It was also reported that he expects to receive $ 7 billion for the club, while the most significant bid at the moment is $ 6.3 billion.
