Beach “curfew” may be introduced in Pattaya – Kommersant

Thailand’s coastal resort town of Pattaya may be under a beach ‘curfew’. The newspaper reported Bangkok Post with reference to local authorities. The beaches will be closed at night due to the high noise from the parties that often go on there until the morning.
The beach party industry in Pattaya began to grow rapidly due to a multi-year program to expand and beautify the city’s beaches. Some beaches were equipped with “temporary nightclubs” with powerful sound equipment. According to the Bangkok Post, citing the administration of Pattaya, residents of coastal areas constantly complain about loud music that prevents them from sleeping.
In addition, after night parties, mountains of garbage remain on the beaches – additional workers have to be hired to clean it up. According to local authorities, there are no opportunities for more careful patrolling of the beaches of Pattaya at night.
“We are now thinking about putting in place opening hours for beaches – hours when they are open and hours when they are closed. This could be a solution to the problem,” Pattaya Deputy Mayor Vutthisak Remkitchakan said.
Thailand is becoming increasingly popular with Russians. Thus, the number of Russian tourists who visited Thailand from January to July increased 11 times compared to the same period last year. If in 2022 435 thousand Russians visited the country, then in 2023 the kingdom expects to receive up to 1.5 million Russian citizens.
