Baskov’s chances to create Russian Eurovision questioned

Producer Sergei Lavrov spoke about the plans of singer Nikolai Baskov to create a Russian analogue of Eurovision, whose words quotes BLITZ+ edition.
Lavrov recalled that in Russia there is a competition “New Wave” by composer Igor Krutoy. He believes that it is possible to work on the format of this competition.
“Why is New Wave not Eurovision? – said the producer.
In his opinion, Nikolai Baskov “was late, we should have done it earlier, we already have Igor Krutoy, who is no worse.”
As for the New Wave, according to Lavrov, “you just need to expand the scale a little.”
And he doubts the implementation of Baskov’s idea: “I don’t know what Nikolai Baskov can do new to attract attention.”
Baskov, as the head of the Russian Musical Association, said in May of this year that they were going to create a competition in the Russian Federation, which could become a kind of analogue of Eurovision. According to the artist, Russia-friendly countries that remained with her during the period of the “cancellation” of Russian culture will be invited to participate in the competition.
