Banks offered to release from the obligation to repay the military mortgage of those killed in battle

The legislative commission approved the draft law on the repayment of the military mortgage of those who died in Ukraine by Rosvoenipoteka, and not by banks. The corresponding document was prepared by Andrey Kartapolov (United Russia), head of the State Duma Defense Committee, and will soon be submitted to the State Duma. The government supported the initiative Vedomosti.

The bill assumes that in the event of the death of a participant in the accumulative mortgage system of housing for military personnel (NIS), i.e. a military man, his obligations under a loan agreement concluded for the purpose of acquiring housing using the funds of a targeted housing loan will be repaid by the authorized body – Rosvoinipotek . This is a special unit of the Ministry of Defense, which is engaged in information support for the military mortgage program and control over it.

Now, according to the law, obligations under the loan agreement of the deceased are terminated by the creditor bank. In the event of the death of military mortgage borrowers as a result of hostilities, a special procedure for terminating credit obligations by banks is applied, and in the event of their death in other circumstances, the general procedure for repaying the loan.

In March, Vladimir Putin signed the law on the recognition of participants in the military operation in Ukraine as combat veterans. This status implies social benefits and monthly payments to military personnel and their families. This status is also can get border guards who participated in the hostilities. In April, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Andrei Turchak at a meeting with Mr Putin offered ease the conditions of military mortgages, in particular, reduce the minimum repayment period from ten years to three or five. Mr. Turchak announced several more initiatives, the President supported them.
