Banks VTB and FC Otkritie have already audited the geographic grid and are currently “adjusting plans for the development and optimization of the network,” Anatoly Pechatnikov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of VTB, told reporters. According to him, non-overlapping territories were left in the development plan, where it is advisable for the future united bank to open its regional divisions. Banks also refuse from duplicating offices that were planned to be opened.
“For example, VTB refuses to open branches in those locations where there are Otkritie offices, and vice versa. This is one of the synergies so as not to duplicate costs,” Mr. Pechatnikov explained.
At the same time, there is no talk of closing branches yet. “We cannot deprive Otkritie Bank of its infrastructure, the bank needs branches, employees, and a regional presence in order to fulfill its business plan for this year,” the VTB top manager said. According to the data on the Central Bank website, at the moment VTB has almost 1.3 thousand additional offices and 20 branches, FC Otkritie has 404 offices and nine branches.
During this year, FC Otkritie Bank will continue to operate under an independent brand. According to VTB, its integration will take at least one and a half to two years. Since January 2023, FC Otkritie has been headed by Mikhail Alekseev, former deputy chairman of the Central Bank. At the end of 2022, the bank had about 3.8 million active retail customers (against 3.2 million people at the beginning of the year), VTB currently serves 17 million people in the retail segment (an increase over the year is 1 million customers). By the end of 2023, VTB expects to see an increase in its customer base of over 1.5 million people. According to the plan for 2023, Otkritie FC bank had a goal to increase its client base by almost 6% (up to 3.97 million people), follows from the final presentation of the former head of the bank, Mikhail Zadornov, presented to journalists at the end of 2022.
