Baltika asked Russia to protect its trademarks abroad – Kommersant

The first vice-president of the Baltika brewing company, Alexander Dedegkaev, turned to the head of the Russian Presidential Administration, Anton Vaino, with a request to help protect its brands abroad. This is reported “Vedomosti” with reference to the text of Mr. Dedegkaev’s appeal, which they have at their disposal.
In the text of the letter, as the newspaper writes, the vice-president of Baltika called for instructing Rospatent to propose to the patent offices of the CIS countries, as well as Turkmenistan and Mongolia, to suspend the registration of licensing agreements for the use of the group’s main brands. Among them is “Baltika” and the names associated with this brand.
Alexander Dedegkaev indicated in the letter that Carlsberg received the rights to the Baltika trademarks in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia and Mongolia for 20 years. The Russian company, he added, has lost the ability to manage brands outside the country. Baltika, according to a company representative, is the most valuable asset in the group’s portfolio.
Experts interviewed by Vedomosti said that foreign patent offices have the right not to respond to requests from Rospatent. It is possible to suspend the registration of an agreement with a legally formed package of documents on the official change of management.
After the start of a special military operation, the Danish Carlsberg Group planned to leave the Russian market and sell its Baltika Breweries. At the end of June, the company announced the completion of the search for an investor for Baltika. On July 16, Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which the shares of foreign companies in Baltika are transferred to the temporary ownership of the Federal Property Management Agency. After this, Carlsberg terminated the licensing agreement with Baltika for the use of its brands.
