The general director of the Bolshoi Theater, Vladimir Urin, said that due to the new rules for processing the purchase of foreign goods introduced against the backdrop of sanctions, the ballerinas of the Bolshoi Theater “were left without shoes.” About it informs News.ru with reference to statements made at a meeting in the State Duma on import substitution in culture.
According to Urin, earlier cultural institutions each December submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Trade a list of goods they needed for the next year, and received them after purchase, but now the situation has changed.
Urin reportedly told the meeting that the Russian cultural industry is not yet in a position to completely abandon Western goods because “you can’t organize import substitution in one year.” He also said that the theater sent a request to the Ministry of Industry and Trade to allow them to independently purchase “a batch of famous ballet shoes, since there are no high-quality ballet shoes in Russia,” but three months later the ministry refused.
“We can’t buy the shoes necessary for the theatre,” the general director stressed, “the ballerinas were left without shoes.”
