The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Serbian Srbijagas signed an agreement on the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Serbia. The signing took place following a meeting between the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, Parviz Shahbazov, and the Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Dubravka Dzhedovic-Handanovic, which took place in Baku.
The agreement provides for the supply of up to 400 million cubic meters to Serbia. m of gas from Azerbaijan in 2024 with the possibility of increasing these volumes in the future. In addition, the energy ministers of the two countries signed a memorandum to promote cooperation between SOCAR and Srbijagas, reported Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy.
“Thanks to the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Serbia through the Bulgaria-Serbia interconnector, which is expected to be put into operation in the near future, we will achieve our strategic goal of diversifying our supply sources, including strengthening our role as a transit country in gas distribution in Central Europe,” Ms. Djedovic-Handanovic specified.
It was assumed that in 2023 Baku will start implementation of a project for gas export to Serbia. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev saidthat this year the country will send half of the gas exported in 2023 to Europe. Gas supplies from Azerbaijan are also agree Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania.
