AvtoVAZ will transfer the production of Lada Vesta from Izhevsk to Togliatti

The Board of Directors of AvtoVAZ decided to move the production of Lada Vesta cars from Izhevsk to the main site in Togliatti, where up to 60 cars per hour will be produced, reported on the manufacturer’s website.

It is specified that the plant in Izhevsk will work on the production and release of the new Lada e-Largus. The production of spare parts for Lada Vesta will also continue at this plant (in particular, stamping and plastic production will remain) and service functions will be preserved.

This decision is connected with the approval of the new industrial strategy of the company, which involves a change in the use of production capacities, the president noted “AvtoVAZa” Maxim Sokolov. According to him, the productivity of the plant in Izhevsk (up to 32 vehicles per hour) will not be able to meet the demand that was predicted for 2023. In addition, a change in industrial strategy will provide employment for all 42,000 employees and produce up to 500,000 vehicles per year in depending on demand in the Russian car market.

The day before, it was reported thatAvtoVAZ”began to offer employees of the plant in Izhevsk 5-7 average monthly salaries for voluntary dismissal. A similar payment will be offered to employees of pre-retirement age in case of early retirement. The company also announced its readiness to sponsor further training of employees, which may be useful to them in their further employment in Izhevsk and Udmurtia, as well as help them find a job. There are no plans for mass layoffs. In total, about 3,200 people work in the state.

The plant located in Izhevsk has been idle for more than five months, in connection with which the trade union organization at the end of July sent an open letter to President Vladimir Putin, in which he spoke about the unpredictability of future prospects, including in connection with plans to transfer the assembly of Lada Vesta to plant in Togliatti. Prime Minister of Udmurtia Yaroslav Semyonov said that the final decision on the capacity utilization of the plant and the future of the staff would be made in August-September by the company’s board of directors.
