“The AvtoVAZ president stressed that the new site for the plant has a high potential, and the company is ready to consider additional partner projects for it, for example, for the production of an electric car created in St. Petersburg,” the report says.
As explained In a commentary to TASS, the company’s press service spoke about new projects, including the e-Niva electric car, which is being developed by the Almaz-Antey defense concern.
Sokolov also confirmed the company’s plans to start production of several Lada car models at a new site in St. Petersburg in the second half of 2023 and their further localization in 2024-2026.
October 11 Ministry of Industry and Trade informed on the transfer of 100% of Nissan’s assets in Russia “Nissan Manufacturing Rus”, including a plant in St. Petersburg, subordinated to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Institute (NAMI). It was clarified that the after-sales service of cars and the supply of spare parts will be handled by “AvtoVAZ“.
The deal provides for an option to repurchase Nissan Manufacturing Rus of its assets, which can be exercised over the next six years. As Vedomosti wrote, Nissan sold its property in Russia to NAMI for one euro. In order to buy back the assets, the company will need to compensate for the investment of the Russian Federal State Unitary Enterprise or its partner in the amount of up to 180 million euros, at the rate of 30 million euros per year.
At the end of November, the plant became the property of NAMI. On December 9, Deputy Prime Minister – Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov announced that the plant would resume production in 2023 under the control of AvtoVAZ. At the end of December, Sokolov reported that the plant will become site for the production of Lada cars.
