AvtoVAZ asked to return passenger cars and LCVs to the preferential leasing program

AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov sent a letter to the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, asking the authorities to return passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) to the preferential leasing program. In the letter, Maxim Sokolov noted that the company’s sales plan for 2024 is 511 thousand cars. According to the head of AvtoVAZ, this can only be accomplished using mechanisms to stimulate demand. One of them is preferential lending, which is currently valid for a limited number of categories of citizens.
The exclusion of passenger cars and LCVs from the program, as Mr. Sokolov added, entails a reduction in the production of Lada cars by 25 thousand units in 2024. Because of this, the company will be forced to slow down the conveyor speed or reduce the number of working days.
The President of AvtoVAZ also wrote in the address that the taxi industry is especially in need of a preferential leasing program. He estimated the sector’s need at 40-50 thousand cars per year. According to Maxim Sokolov, due to the cancellation of the program, taxi companies will not receive about 10 thousand cars in 2024.
The sending of the letter to the Ministry of Industry and Trade was confirmed to Interfax and AvtoVAZ itself. A company representative clarified that the initiative to return preferential leasing primarily concerns the taxi industry.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade excluded all passenger and light commercial vehicles from the preferential leasing program in February 2024. According to Kommersant sources, the reduction occurred to save the budget.
