The first pilot sections with a permitted speed of 150 km / h will appear on the M-12 Moscow-Kazan highway no earlier than a year after the launch of traffic along the entire road, Vyacheslav Petushenko, chairman of the board of the Avtodor state company, told Kommersant in an interview.
“First, it will be necessary to change the regulatory framework, amend the Rules of the Road,” he explained. Then, most likely, we will conduct a pilot experiment on one of the sections of the M-12, and see how this will affect the accident rate. We will commission the entire road at the end of 2023. Then, during the year, we will definitely operate the road with the existing speed limits, that is, up to 130 km/h in summer and 110 km/h in winter. Only after this time has elapsed will we think about an experiment with a speed limit of 150 km/h.”
The current traffic rules, we recall, allow movement on highways at a speed of 130 km / h. Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin spoke about the possibility of increasing the limit back in 2020, and in 2022 he also suggested that the M-12 would be the first road with a new speed limit. The head of the traffic police, Mikhail Chernikov, has already stated that the department supports this decision, but changes to the traffic rules will be needed.
