Auto sales fixed the fall in November – Business – Kommersant

Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV) in November were slightly better than the previous month, but still 61% below last year’s result. The top market is still headed by the domestic Lada, and sales of the only budget model Granta even exceed last year’s. Otherwise, Chinese brands have replaced the Korean brands that were in the lead last year. Some of the Chinese manufacturers, such as Geely, even in such a market showed sales growth by 2021.

In November, sales of passenger cars and LCVs in Russia fell by 61.6% to 46.4 thousand units, according to the Association of European Businesses (.pdf). Nevertheless, this is 1.2 thousand cars more than in October, and is close to the value of September (46.7 thousand). The rate of market decline compared to last year remained approximately at the same level as in previous month.

Despite the overall dynamics, the brands that took the top of the market in November are much closer to last year’s volumes.

For example, the market leader Lada showed a drop of only 18% (21.7 thousand cars), and the bestseller among foreign cars is Chinese Haval — by 7% (4.5 thousand). Other brand from China, Geelyand completely went into plus last month (by 24%, up to 3.5 thousand units), like the domestic UAZ (by 14%, up to 3.5 thousand pieces).

At the same time, previously included in the top 5 market Korean Kia and Hyundai against the background of the suspension of production in the Russian Federation, sales were reduced by 79% (3.1 thousand units) and 87% (1.8 thousand units), like European Skoda and Volkswagen – by 90% (524 cars) and 92% (387 cars), respectively. The rest of the top 10 participants are Russian GAS (4.2 thousand) and Chinese changan (515) – also in the red by 22% and 9%, respectively.

The most popular model, as in recent months, remains Lada Granta, sales of which are almost twice as high as a year earlier, and amounted to 13,000 units in November.

This model is the only budget offer on the Russian car market, as well as the beneficiary of the preferential car loan program. Also included in state support, the Chinese Haval Jolion is in third place after Lada Niva with a result of 2,000 cars sold, which is approximately the same as last year.

According to the results of January-November, 548.9 thousand cars were sold in the Russian Federation, which is 60.9% less than last year. This data does not include reports from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Chery and its brand Exeed – they only report quarterly.
