Russian authorities are studying measures that could be taken if Auchan, Globus, Metro and Selgros leave the Russian market. This is stated in a letter from First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, which is cited “News”.

“Despite the scale of the created trade infrastructure, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the risks of these retail chains leaving the Russian market remain,” Andrey Belousov said in a letter.

Now these foreign networks own 483 retail outlets in 49 regions, as well as centers for the production and distribution of goods. In addition, each point has more than 2 thousand suppliers of products and raw materials, and they employ more than 50 thousand employees of various specialties.

The letter proposes to allow domestic trading companies to buy the assets of foreign retailers without restrictions by 2024. The Prime Minister agreed with Andrei Belousov’s proposal.

Currently, the trade law prohibits retailers from uncontrolled growth in the regions: they are prohibited from entering into mergers and acquisitions if their share in a municipality or district has reached 25% in monetary terms. The ban was lifted in June of this year, when the Finnish retailer Prisma left the Russian market. 15 of the company’s stores in Russia were bought by the domestic X5 Group (Pyaterochka, Perekrestok).
