“Pedagogy: what is teaching? » Less than a week before the start of the school year, the new contract teachers recruited for the primary schools of Seine-Saint-Denis are learning the basics of their new profession in an express version. They are about 150, this Thursday, August 25, to have joined the site of the higher national institute of teaching and education of Livry-Gargan for this four-day training reserved for those who have just signed their first contract.
In the first chapter of their new professional life, “tools for learning to plan learning”. Information flows at high speed. what is a “call book” or one “correspondence book” ? Where can I find useful programs and resources for preparing lessons? How to manage relations with parents, conflicts with students? The two trainers Karin Nacache and Bruno Giel fly over all aspects of a teacher’s life in three hours.
If they did not offer any training for non-permanent professors a few years ago, the academies set up these modules as their recruitment increases. Créteil has gained experience in this area. In the first degree, it is the academy most affected – with Versailles – by the shortage of teachers. In 2022, 700 positions were not filled following teacher competitions. The academy had to urgently recruit 200 new non-permanent teachers in the first degree and 200 in the second degree, in addition to the 2,000 that it renewed. “Teaching is an experienced profession and I would like everyone to have substantial experience, but we have to deal with a tense situation”tried to put into perspective, Thursday, the Minister of Education, Pap Ndiaye, on France 2, questioned on this question of the increasing use of contract workers. On Friday morning, the minister also announced “in the spring of 2023, an exceptional tenure competition for contract teachers”the terms of which remain to be specified.
A motley assembly
Concentrated faces, notebooks or computers deployed in front of them, smartphones at hand to take a picture of the PowerPoint scrolling on the screen, the new recruits from Seine-Saint-Denis gather the advice of the trainers. The participants “take all there is to take”, as expressed by Rebecca Goldsztejn. The 30-year-old had embarked on a MEEF master’s degree (specializing in training for teaching, education and training professions) which she interrupted when she became a mother. Three children later, she judged that this wave of contracts was an opportunity to relaunch. “I know that contract workers are not appreciated by the profession, but it will be one more string to my bow”she believes.
