As you know, “only girls in jazz.” In “Chekhovshchina”, which was played at the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre, one lady also rules the ball, who also offers to comprehend reality with the help of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. Therefore, the name of the premiere performance – “Chekhovshchina” – should be pronounced with an emphasis on the first syllable. And not to be confused with devilry, although where only women gather, it definitely won’t do without a devil. The MK columnist visited the premiere show.
“My dears, come in, don’t be shy,” a plump blonde who looks like an opera diva tells us with the intonations of an amiable hostess. – Were waiting for you! Come in, please.” And he takes the audience, divided into small parties in a narrow corridor, away from the hall. Where is it? On the stairs, where several rows have already been installed in advance.
It was the main staircase, wide, with white balusters, that the actress Serafima Nizovskaya, known for the TV series “Kitchen”, “Sklifosovsky” and other works in cinema, chose for her directorial debut. But in the Electrotheatre, she now, as a director, gathered nine actresses, providing them with a staircase and two more flights upstairs. Well, the ladies are gone.
– A man is faithful, constant in love. Tell me what’s the news! one of them says in a languid voice. – Men are faithful, constant … What right do you have to tell me this ?! If it comes to that, I’ll tell you: of all the men that I knew and know, the best was my … late husband.
Actresses (there are seven on stage, but two in the cast: Yulia Abdel Fattah, Anna Antosik, Irina Koreneva / Inna Golovina, Anna Kapaleva, Daria Kolpikova, Margo Movsesyan, Anna Senina / Serafima Nizovskaya) – in evening trouser suits and dresses (artist Anastasia Nefedova ), with glasses of champagne in their hands. They stand, flirt in the rhythm of an unobtrusive melody, and some are downright reclining on the stairs. Not a performance, but a women’s party for the occasion. Each of its participants has a monologue, which, having united with others, form a rather harmonious composition in the form of small talk with an intellectual touch, the essence of which is the relevance of the eternal topics that worried and excite ladies. From very specific: “A brunette walks past my windows. The mustache is adorable. I pretend not to pay attention” to the philosophical ones: “If only we knew, if only we knew” and “We will still see the sky in diamonds”.
Languid, sometimes demonic intonations (here it is, damn it!), Movements in the dance of the fashionable frame up style. A style that will include both strip plastic (from the word “striptease”), and jazz, and fusion. In general, free, at ease, elegant, modern.
The intimate staircase atmosphere is complemented by the landscape of evening Moscow, which can be seen in the large windows, promptly reminding the audience that they are still not in the last century. Foreign cars rush along Tverskaya, an expensive hotel opposite the Electrotheatre shines with lights, the last winter snow sprinkles passersby …
Ladies from the 21st century appropriated Chekhov’s texts from the century before last – the beginning of the last century, which belong only to the heroines of his various works – stories, plays, vaudevilles. And I must say, they did it quite charmingly.
“Why don’t people fly like birds?” one of them asks.
“Really, why? I think. – These are the ones that are in a hurry now at a late hour outside the window. And if they flew, they would not fuss, they would not twitch … “
Despite the simplicity of the stairway production, the debutant director revealed a subtle understanding of female nature. She managed to show women’s ambitions, which are stronger than men’s. Especially now, and especially when beautiful women get together in one place. That’s where the hell starts!
In her “Chekhovshchina” Serafima Nizovskaya, whether she wanted it or not, laid another idea for the acting profession – a humane one. Each of the participants in the production got a chance for a role that she might never play: Nina Zarechnaya from The Seagull, one of the Prozorov sisters in Three Sisters, Sonya from Uncle Vanya, or the charming widow of the landowner Popov from the joke – Comedy Bear. And here – even though she played a fragment, she lived the fate of some Chekhov heroine. Oh, if only I knew, if only I knew…
