At LR, a return to youth without pomp before the appointment of the party president in December
[ad_1]
The coming year is certainly without electoral stakes. No presidential election to come or even an intermediate ballot to prepare. However, and with this lack of deadline in mind, the modesty of the back-to-school event for young people from the Les Républicains (LR) party organized in Angers on September 3 and 4 is striking. Nothing to do with the raout of September 2021, at the Parc floral de Paris, a few months before the electoral spring of 2022. Functions oblige, the main leaders of course made the trip, but there were a lot of elected officials and LR executives missing. .
Because, if the French will not go to the polls in 2023, a first since 2018, the LR activists must appoint the new president of the right-wing formation in December. A deadline which, a few years ago, would have moved the ban and the back ban of a party that has remained central to French political life for decades. But of this institution, there is not much left today, as shown by the days organized at the Greniers Saint-Jean, in Angers.
It is also a money story. According to our information, the party, which had granted 800,000 euros to young people in 2021, only paid this year… 30,000. It prevents. The absence of figures such as the president of the Hauts-de-France region, Xavier Bertrand, or that of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Laurent Wauquiez, whose presidential ambitions for 2027 are well known, indicates the lesser importance of the party in the eyes of those who are leading members.
Ciotti-Wauquiez axis
The former president of the formation, Christian Jacob, having decided to leave his mandate earlier, it is however necessary to replace him. Especially since, after the historic failure of LR in the presidential election, where Valérie Pécresse, its candidate, obtained only 4.8% of the votes in the first round, many are calling for a fundamental overhaul which would ensure, they hope, the survival of their political family.
This change, even this reconstruction, they are today three serious competitors who want to carry it out within LR. The deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes Eric Ciotti, the senator of Vendée and president of the LR elected officials at the Luxembourg Palace, Bruno Retailleau, and the current secretary general of the party and deputy of Lot, Aurélien Pradié. If the last has not yet declared himself, the other two are, for their part, officially candidates for the election which will take place at the beginning of December. For the three men, feeling the mood of young activists, showing up and making speeches in this new school year was a must.
