Assistant director sentenced to probation for Baldwin’s murder of cameraman on set

Assistant director David Halls became the first person convicted in Alec Baldwin’s manslaughter trial of cameraman Galina Hutchins. He was sentenced to six months of probation. David Halls gave Alec Baldwin a gun that turned out to be a live round.
The assistant director was found guilty of unsafe handling of weapons, The Associated Press reports. He also has to pay a $500,000 fine to take a gun safety course and do 24 hours of community service. David Halls previously made a deal and pleaded guilty.
Alec Baldwin and the film’s gunsmith Hannah Gutierez-Reid pleaded not guilty to manslaughter. They face up to 18 months in prison.
In October 2021, while filming Rust, Alec Baldwin fired a firearm that turned out to be loaded with live ammunition. Galina Hutchins was wounded, from which she later died in the hospital. In October 2022 Mr. Baldwin made an agreement to settle a lawsuit with Ms. Hutchins’ family. According to the parties, she died as a result of an accident. In November, Alec Baldwin sued to members of the film crew.
