Artistic Director of the Mariinsky Theater Gergiev became a laureate of the Onegin Opera Prize

The award ceremony for the winners of the Onegin National Opera Award took place in the historic building of the Mariinsky Theater. One of the laureates was the director and artistic director of the Mariinsky Theater Valery Gergiev, who, according to media reports, will soon also head the Bolshoi Theater. The day before, November 18, Mr. Gergiev also honored the first Hermitage Prize.

Laureates National Opera Award “Onegin”:

• Valery Gergiev – for outstanding contribution to the development of musical theater;
• nomination “Diva” – soloist of the Moscow musical theater “Helikon-Opera” Larisa Kostyuk (the role of Madame Flora in the opera “Medium”);
• nomination “Master of the Stage” – soloist of the Novosibirsk Academic Opera and Ballet Theater Alexey Zelenkov (the role of Grigory Gryazny in The Tsar’s Bride);
• nomination “Favorite” (audience voting) – soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theater Svetlana Moskalenko (Adele in “Die Fledermaus”) and the directors of the play “Prince Igor” at the Donetsk Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Anatoly Solovyanenko.
• nomination “Event” – the play “Norma” at the Moscow Academic Musical Theater named after Konstantin Stanislavsky and Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko;
• nomination “Cast” – participants in the play “Carmen” staged by the Nizhny Novgorod Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Alexander Pushkin;
• nomination “Guest” – Igor Morozov (the role of Sadkov in the opera of the same name at the Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theater);
• nominations “Debut of a Woman” and “Debut of a Man” – MAMT soloist Polina Sharovarova (Adalzhiza in “Norma”) and Shota Chibirov from Helikon Opera (Turrida in “Rural Honor”).

According to media reports, Valery Gergiev may, along with the Mariinsky Theater, also become the general director of the Bolshoi Theater. Commenting on this information, he saidthat he “wasn’t looking for more work.”
