Artist and graphic designer Jamie Reed has died at the age of 76. This was reported by the British newspaper The Guardian with reference to his gallery owner.
“Artist, anarchist, punk, hippie, rebel and romantic. Jamie left behind his beloved daughter Rowan, granddaughter Rose and a huge artistic legacy,” the statement said. The causes of death were not specified.
Jamie Reid was born in 1947 in London. His most famous works are covers for the releases of the punk band Sex Pistols: the singles God Save the Queen and others, as well as their only album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols. All of them were created in the second half of the 1970s.
Jamie Reid’s press-cut style work shaped the punk aesthetic. His work is exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Tate Gallery in the UK, the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Jamie Reed was an anarchist close to the Situationist movement. While studying at Croydon College in London, Mr Reed took part in a sit-in with Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren.
