The Arktikugol company commented on the information about the demand of the office of Spitsbergen Governor Lars Fause to demolish the cross installed in the Russian part of the archipelago in the village of Pyramid. According to the company, a decision has not yet been made, and negotiations are ongoing to move the cross to another location.

On October 2, Arktikugol appealed this decision. The company said it “justified the symbolic and historical significance of this memorial for employees.” The cross was installed on August 13 by the bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church of Naryan-Mar and Mezen. He named it Georgievsky.
