According to the agency, Apple told investors that its future is connected with three areas: smart home, mixed reality and car. The last project was closed, and in 2024 the Vision Pro headset was released. So it is possible that the company will now rely on robotics.
What might this project look like? And does he have any prospects? The founder of the ATF Media group of companies, Edgar Grigoryan, believes that there is interest in such products, but their practical meaning is not obvious: “The big race has moved into the niche of the consumer market, where Xiaomi, Tesla and others have entered. They are actively promoting the topic of household robots that are your personal assistant. In everyday life, robots are definitely causing a huge stir, but it is not clear what will happen after the first wave of interest.
Today, increased attention is caused more by the wow effect, because artificial intelligence is on everyone’s lips. People have heard a lot of things, but it’s more of an element of luxury to have your own robot. It is still difficult to judge how functionally it will be needed in everyday life. Now the main interest comes from wealthy people, those who want an additional “toy.”
Amazon released its home robot several years ago. A device called Astro costs more than $1.5 thousand and is still not in great demand. Well, or it will be a device, conditionally, with a built-in iPad or some new Apple Home, into which you can talk, receive an answer from it, listen to music, watch something on the screen, in fact, it’s just another smart assistant on wheels.
Using Amazon as an example, we see that this is not a very popular product; at the moment, there is basically no market. At some point, everyone ran towards a “smart” home and started making light bulbs, sensors and everything else. But this, in general, has stopped; it’s the same story as with VR and AR. That is, we had VR ten years ago, and it didn’t make much progress, but Apple decided that Vision Pro should be released this year. In general, if you look at this product, it is not ideal either, but the company sees promise in this, I think it will be the same story here. That is, until Apple launches its device, most likely there will be no progress in this market.
Apple managed to somehow convince the user that he needed some kind of gadget, it worked really well with the iPhone, but it seems to me that in recent years Apple, in general, has moved away from this attempt to predict what is needed will be to users. It occupies already understandable niches, as with the same glasses. Will she be able to do something with smart robots? According to Bloomberg, Apple has several more new projects in development. These include touchscreen Macs, AirPods with built-in cameras, and various health-monitoring technologies.
