Apple dropped to second place in the list of largest smartphone manufacturers

Apple smartphone shipments fell about 10% in the first quarter of 2024, research firm IDC said. The company again dropped to second place in the ranking of the largest manufacturers, losing first place to Samsung. The American corporation has overtaken the South Korean one by the end of 2023.

In January–March 2024, global smartphone shipments increased by 7.8%, to 289.4 million units. Samsung’s share was 20.8%, Apple – 17.3%, Xiaomi – 14.1%, reports Reuters IDC data.

Samsung, which released its new flagship model Galaxy S24 at the beginning of the year, shipped more than 60 million smartphones in the first quarter. Apple sold 50.1 million versus 55.4 million a year earlier.

Apple’s share in 2023 amounted to 20.1%, Samsung – 19.4%. The South Korean corporation has maintained its leadership among smartphone manufacturers for 12 years.

At the beginning of the year, the American corporation Microsoft overtook Apple is ranked as the most valuable company in the world. Microsoft’s market capitalization later exceeded $3 trillion.
