Angelina Jolie hinted at leaving the film industry: Hollywood is a “small place”

Angelina Jolie described Hollywood as a “shallow” and “unhealthy place” in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. The movie star also said that she would never have thought of starting her career in the entertainment industry today. This was just one of the revelations the star shared. In an article entitled “Angelina Jolie is rebuilding her life,” she spoke about “healing” after her breakup with Brad Pitt and her plans for the future.

Angelina Jolie, winner of the prestigious Oscar film award, admitted in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that if she had her time again, she would choose a different career path due to the pressure placed on actors these days.

Let’s remember that after making her screen debut as a child in 1982, Jolie became one of the most famous faces in Hollywood, participating in film projects from Girl, Interrupted to Disney’s Maleficent.

“I wouldn’t be an actress today. When I started my journey, I didn’t have such high expectations to be so public, to share so much,” said the actress.

Jolie admitted that she can’t “really have a social life” in Los Angeles due to her status as a public figure, adding that she hopes to leave Los Angeles permanently to spend more time at her home in California.

“This is part of what happened after my divorce,” she explained. “I lost the ability to live and travel as freely. I’ll move when I can. I grew up in a pretty humble place. Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not the healthiest place. If you don’t want to live here, then you are striving for authenticity.” Jolie added: “Growing up in Hollywood, it never made much of an impression on me. I never thought it was significant.”

While Jolie didn’t specify whether leaving Los Angeles would mean the end of her acting career, she recently shared that she began acting less in films seven years ago, around the time of her split from ex-husband Brad Pitt.

The actress previously told British Vogue that she now “only takes on jobs that didn’t require long filming in order to spend time with the children.” She added: “We had a lot to fix. We’re still finding our footing.”

Let us remember that in September 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt after two years of marriage and 12 years of marriage. The couple has since been embroiled in divorce proceedings regarding custody of their six children and disagreements over their various assets.

In an interview with WSJ, Jolie shared that she developed Bell’s palsy, a neurological disorder that temporarily paralyzes one side of the face, due to the stress of her divorce.

The Oscar winner first revealed she was diagnosed with neuropathy in 2017, a “difficult year” following her split from her husband.

“My body reacts very strongly to stress,” she explains. “My blood sugar levels go up and down. Six months before the divorce, I suddenly developed Bell’s palsy.” Because of the condition, Jolie said she was “terrified” to be offered her next film role, playing Greek opera singer Maria Callas in director Pablo Larraín’s biopic Maria.

After the divorce, Jolie cut back on her work and mostly spent time at home with her children.

“We had to heal,” she said when asked about her family. She emphasized that she perfectly understands people’s interest in her life: “At some point, Pitt and I were the golden couple in the industry.”

Angelina Jolie commented on what exactly people like about her. She believes that since she first appeared on silver screens, people have liked the part of her personality that is quite tough and perhaps a little wild. At the same time, she noted that society is not at all interested in the other part of the actress, where there is pain and sadness.
